Taking a home inventory has long been on my list of things to do. It’s one of those things that you may wish you did when you could have should the need arise.

IT’S A BIG JOB
Taking a home inventory can be a HUGE job, that’s why many of us haven’t done it.
- A good way to tackle it could be to either set aside a few hours and make it a project. Gather everything you need and just get to it.
- Or do it a little at a time. You can add it into your daily routine – take 5 minutes to to work on it every day – or 10 every other day – on Mon, Wed, Fri – that kind of thing.
Pictures and serial numbers are a good thing to have.
Store them out of the house – online is a good option. The article above gives details and suggestions.
A GOOD TIME TO DECLUTTER TOO
As you go along you will probably find yourself doing a fair bit of decluttering without even thinking about it.
You need to FIND the microwave oven first before you can take the picture, right :0)
And you will want it clear and clean. Win/win.
A NICE TWIST
A good thing to do while doing your home inventory is to do a ‘home diagnostics’ as well.
- Keep a note of what needs to be repaired and what will need to be repaired.
- Make a time line of when you will work on it and in what order – how you will save or pay for it – all the details in a step by step plan.
