I am really excited about the coming year and all that it will bring for us – if we focus and get down to it!

My main theme this year is creating a home, so I thought that it would be fun to take 5 minutes and gussy something up to make it feel homey.

I decided to do a table in my basement bathroom that was a junk collector and didn’t look homey at all.

It took me about 10 minutes because I cleaned up the area by the sink a bit too.

And I must say, that was possible because I’ve been doing 5 minutes on it the past few days during my BOOST housework circuit, otherwise it wouldn’t have been possible to have gotten to the ‘homey’ stage.

If you have your BOOST Housework Circuit and haven’t been using it, now is a great time to set yourself up to create a bit of ‘home’. If you haven’t got your copy – it’s newly updated with more coming soon – you can get it here – My Clean House Simple Housework System.

Here is the before and after.

As you can see, it doesn’t have to be Homes and Gardens, it just has to be homey!

The ‘tablecloth’ is actually a pair of curtains that I made and haven’t been using. The basket did at one time hold a bunch of books but I emptied it and hadn’t gotten around to finding a home for it. And my daughter is going to be thrilled to have a basket handy to the shower with face cloths and shower items.

Often you can use what you’ve got.

You may be surprised at what you can do!

Before – cluttered and uninviting!

After – Tidy, functional and welcoming.

And I’ve taken the first big step to setting it up to home it up some more.

Looking at the picture I can see that there is more I can do (including wash the floor!), I just have to think about what it could be. I’m thinking that a picture in behind would be nice, maybe a small bowl of something smelly and decorative like my handmade soap.

I’m already excited about what another 5 minutes might do!

How about you? What can you do in 5 minutes to ‘homey up’ your place?
