Productivity Rule #4 – Kaizen
Have you heard about Kaizen?
Are you wondering what it is?
Kaizen is a Japanese word that means the principal of continued improvement.
This principal is applied, sometimes in small ways, every single day.
Does it sound like something that you should be thinking seriously about in your business?
DO YOU DO COMPOUND INTEREST?
Do you 'do' compound interest in your bank account?
If not, I'm sure you'd like to! We all know how much it all adds up.
Kaizen is something like that only it can be applied to any area of your life, including your business.
I like the idea so much that I've added a daily Kaizen task to my daily plan.
HOW CAN KAIZEN MAKE ME MORE PRODUCTIVE?
Applying the principal of Kaizen to your business, and your life will make you more productive for two reasons – it will give you automatic focus, and it will empower you to focus on the right things.
Just thinking of it makes it clear that in this mode, a person could do great things.
ADD A NEW KAIZEN TIME BLOCK TO YOUR DAY – STARTING TODAY
If you set aside a bit of time every day to work on something that will make your business structure, your customer service, your products or your marketing a little better than it was yesterday, then you will be focused on doing something that will show results, be they large or small.
I got this idea from Tony Robbins book Awaken the Giant Within.
Tony points out that Dr. W. Edwards Deming, the man who brought Kaizen to Japan said that Kaizen is "a living, breathing process of never-ending improvement."
I've been reading every morning for about 45 minutes before I do anything else.
It has literally been changing my outlook for the day because every day I choose one take away to focus on for the day.
Today it was Kaizen.
In fact, you could call the act of reading a good, personal development book like Awaken the Giant Within, every day, AND applying at least one principal daily, to be Kaizen.
Don't waste anytime getting started on this one, it's a biggie and can be life – or business – changing.
You can read more about it Mike Wroblewski at Boondoggle – What Is Kaizen?
ACTION TIP
– Think of the number one task that you can do today to create a spiral of upward improvement to your business.
– Get busy.
– Try to make it something small but measurable for now. If you want to do something bigger, plan the steps out, and then do one every day.
– Let me know what you achieve. I would love to hear all about it.
If you've got an information product out, or in development, you will want to check out this ebook – Product Creation Kaize Handbook. I am amazed not only at the simple suggestions, but at the detail in them. This book shows you not only what you can do to make small, profitable improvements on your own information product, but show you HOW in great detail.
If you've ever been frustrated by a product that really gets you motivated by showing you what to do, but then leaves you to fizzle at the how, you'll love this ebook.
It also comes without the big price tag of many of the products out these days. Well worth the time and $ to check it out.
