Time Management Tips

Goal Setting

How many times have you taken the time to make elaborate goal setting plans, outlining your most urgent and pressing goals…sworn by oath (or spitting 3x and twirling in a circle 2x clockwise) that you are finally going to do them?

And a week later find yourself asking… goals? What goals?

Life is as you have always known it.

Once again.

MAKING A PLAN ISN'T ENOUGH

The problem is that we have the best of intentions but making a plan isn't enough.

We have to make a plan, and then follow it.

Surprise!!

Seriously, we all know that.

The question is how are we going to do that?

THE FIRST STEP…

The first step is of course, to make a plan.

You must know what you want to do.

Narrow your focus to a few things that are top priority foryou right now – a burning desire.

What will take the biggest load off?

THEN TAKE THE NEXT…

When you have pinpointed what your main goal setting focus will be and created a detailed ACTion plan, the next critical factor is to  make a habit of looking at your plan a minimum of three times per day.

Morning when you first get started, evening before you go to bed, and at least once through the day, after lunch is good.

Instead of around lunch time, once mid morning and once mid afternoon could also be helpful.

GO A STEP FARTHER…

Keep your goals in front of you. At this point, you should be thinking of them not as goals, but ACTIONS.

Looking at them throughout the day goes far in reminding you of your tasks and big picture, but keeping them in front of you in "short form" keeps the vision in your head and reminds you to look at them as welL – and to do them.

A few ways to do this are…

  • use cue cards displayed prominently on your desk or anyplace that they will be of use to have (kitchen for mealplan reminders for instance)
  • write on your mirror with washable marker
  • send yourself email reminders

THE KEY…

Stay single mindedly focused on your main goals until you hit them.

THE PAY OFF…

Enjoy them as every day you come a step closer.

Pat yourself on the back and enjoy being the person who can accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself.

It sounds easy and it is.

Try it with something small for a week and see how it goes.

I've been amazed with the life changing progress I've been seeing for myself the past few weeks using these basic steps.

Ask yourself, if you had a chance to cut through the noise and really get somewhere with your goals, would you?

IF THE ANSWER IS YES…

If your answer is yes, you will find the 'Magic 100' to be of great interest to you.

It's the goal setting system that taught me these principals and many more.

It's simple and to the point, not something that I need to fuss with so I can get to the doing – I like that!

If you'd like a simple solution to real progress in your goals, check it out for yourself.
