Today is my birthday. I’m 43 whopping years old!

I had planned to go to an event to see Marianne Williamson speak on middle age, basically on how it can be a great jumping off time to do big things, not an ending.

She is one of my favourite speakers on many topics, so when I saw that she was coming to Toronto, I really wanted to go, being my birthday and a week that my husband was home, I was all set (I don’t drive in the city!)

Being little miss practical, I also decided to stop and get some supplies for my natural skin care site while we where going that way.

As it worked out, by the time we where finished doing that, I was wiped and we hadn’t even made it to Toronto yet. The car was loaded down and I was a little nervous about driving there that way, we had about 6 hours to kill before the event started, it was cold, etc etc so I decided that we should take the scenic route home instead of going and driving home in the middle of the night.

In some ways it could have been a disapointment, as seeing Marianne speak was a huge deal for me, especially as I had seen it as a sign that she was specifically speaking on this particular point in life and it was my birthday. And in some ways I was “stepping out of the box” by going.

But when I examined exactly what I would need to do and put out to attend, I really asked myself if I NEEDED to go see her, although I knew I wanted to. I asked myself what would I be missing long term if I didn’t go.

The great news was that I realized that I truly didn’t need to go to improve my outlook.

I already am in a place that I am happy to be as I am, I realize the potential in this stage of life, and I know that ultimately, I need to start looking within instead of all around for my inspiration and plans of action.

As I said to my husband, “I really don’t need to be told that “I can do it”, or that I am at a “golden age” in my life, I already know. I’m not going to let a bit of loose skin and wrinkles stop me” :0))

In many ways, I have so much more than I did in my younger days, it would be almost stupid to think that I am at any disadvantage now.

So what was the gift?

The gift was knowing without a doubt that I am at the point in my life that I can stop looking to others to validate myself.

It’s huge.

A goal for this year that has been brewing for awhile was to stop looking “out there” for success, and to utilize what I already have.

It boils down to the difference between input and output. It’s the key to getting anywhere with anything. There is a point where you have to say enough, and start using what you have, especially in this day of information overload (and for a book worm/infoholic!)

This is one of the keys that I will be sharing in the WAHH! (Work at Home Helper) program, it amazes me how this one concept can increase productivity.

ACTION TIP

If you are at the point where you no longer need to learn, but to utilize your knowledge, go for it!

Stop wasting your time examining what other people can offer you – input – and start spending your time giving to other people and utilizing your gifts – output.

Examine your strengths and your self confidence.

Don’t let scattered thinking, loose boundaries, and especially the thought that you need to be perfect stop you from moving forward in your business.

It’s a form of procrastination. Recognize this and choose a new path.

Look within. Validate your self.

And watch your business become.

By the way, my other great gift was the realization, as the sun came out this morning, that all I needed to be happy today was a bright day to do what I want and the ability to breath.  What more can you ask for on your birthday!
