The Power of Reciprocation in Business - it’s easy too!

I have posted frequently about my trips to the dentist on my @Home blog. I’ve been there a lot the past months and it has been quite the challenge to get there on time, every time.

My dentist has an amazing patient care plan. He sent us a fruit basket through the local flower shop. It was quite fun because I had no idea what it was or who it was from after I received the message on my answering machine (you can tell I was there a lot!)

Also, my last appointment was on Valentine’s Day. The assistant came out to let the secretary know a few details and handed me 3 carnations from a vase on the desk and said, these are for you.

The whole staff is friendly and try really hard to make everyone feel comfortable.

The carnations are sitting on my desk as I type. I have resolved to always have a few flowers here, as they perk up my whole work area - but that is a new story.

I wanted to mention this as it is really not that hard to put a few resources towards making your customers feel special but the rewards in customer loyalty - which can come and go like the wind - are well worth it.

Not to mention that it really makes you feel good to go the extra mile and put a little humanity into your business. When you think about it, we owe our customers the privilege of working at home, that’s a big deal.

ACTION TIP

If you haven’t created a project book for your business, do that first. All it takes is a simple notebook where you keep all of your notes on what you are doing and what you would like to do. You may want to get a sectioned notebook to keep major projects seperate.

Create a space for brainstorming ideas. Write down Customer Appreciation and think of a few ways that you can go the extra mile for your customers. Try to stick to things that will give your customer great value and make them feel special, but not things that will necessarily take a lot of your time. A small gift with each order - maybe you can make up a small but valuable report on your product to include, a thank you note or a special coupon.

The sky is the limit once you put your thinking cap on (ok, my romper room days are showing :0)
