How is Your Foundation Doing? Check it before you do anything…

As I have mentioned earlier, we are undergoing some big changes around here concerning my husbands job. He is going to be home more, after 3 years working away, the last 6 months having him home hardly at all.

I have already seen a huge difference this past week that he’s been home. I had realized all along that with my schedule and responsibilities being what they where with him gone most of the time, I had no room for slack, I had to keep a tight system or everything could fall apart in no time flat.

But it has really hit home to me now how important your basic set up is to your success, and especially to your stress level.

There are things that I had contemplated that I didn’t do, mostly because I didn’t feel that I had the time to implement them.

This is of utmost importance to YOU if you are just starting up.

Think everything through and have systems and help in place so that you won’t get overwhelmed and “over done” with the little things, making it impossible to get to the things that really count to increase your bottom line.

Later, you probably won’t have time (don’t assume that you will. Once you get to the point that you really need it, you won’t!)

If you already are up and running and just don’t have the time in the day, no amount of organizing and planning will make it so, then you need to seriously look at things and think about dropping a few balls.

You can do this by delegating and hiring out, or streamlining and weeding. A combination of both may be what’s best.

And you may need to think how you can change the situation to better suit you.

The important thing is to stop long enough to realize that you need to clear some space for yourself somehow, brainstorm and plan realistic solutions and then do them. A little bit at a time will show you results, and in time, you will be able to make the changes that you need.

ACTION TIP:

If you are running on empty (do you feel like pacman?) examine your situation.

What can you change.

What can you get help with.

Plan some time in this week’s schedule, even if it’s a half hour in bed with a pen and paper, to brainstorm the problems and the solutions.

Break them down into small, doable steps.

Consult with the people you need to consult with.

Put your plans in action one by one. Pencil the time in and don’t break the appointment with yourself to do it.

REMEMBER – The optimal success of your business depends on your creativity and drive. Both of these disappear when you are burnt out, tired and frustrated. Make it a priority to maintain both of these characteristics. That means looking after you.

I really like the idea to go vertical if you have a small space and manage work/home in the same space. Check out the shot of the floor to ceiling desk!
