Time Management Tips

Eureka! I’ve found one to two hours of productive, uninterrupted, kick a** time to get more focused work done, every day.

I touched on it a few days ago when the time changed. And it is really working well. Not only am I getting more work done, but I am finding myself using this time to do the things that will see the most benefit. (Right now those things are networking, marketing and project block time in a structured way)

As luck would have it, Chris Furmanski from eMoms at Home posted 3 Tips for Better Time Management.

I fully agree.

These tips are part of the reason the morning works so well, you have full control over all of it. You can turn off your email, plan a guaranteed uninterrupted project block and as he mentions in tip 3, maximize that morning peak thinking time, it is definitely my best time along with a spurt in the evening. Afternoons for me have always been periods of very little brain activity :0)

I’ve truly been in awe at what I’ve been doing in the early hours these past few days, shocked when I look at the clock in the morning as I’m working and ready to hit the sack at night!

So what am I missing? Nothing. I miss a bit of TV time, actually I’ve been more productive at night around the house as well, something about a good boost during the day to get you going at night too. I guess you can call it momentum – and sheer joy that I feel on the winning side of the battle for more time.

I enjoy bed time even more, since I am tired and don’t want to mess up my schedule by staying up too late, I am sure to be in bed 1/2 hour early to read in luxurious comfort before I go to sleep.

What are my hours? I am getting up a little before 6:00 old time – that translates to about 4.40 new time. Shocking I know!

I go to bed about 9:30 or so old time (on my alarm clock by the bed). I don’t even look at the new clock so that it doesn’t seem too weird. My kids are old enough that they can fall asleep without me so it’s not a huge deal if I go early, and my husband is here so that they don’t feel to terribly abandoned.

If they really need me they have no qualms about coming in and talking to me while I am sleeping anyway. In fact, they’ve turned it into an art form! (what part of SNORE do you understand? I guess it’s the same as the way I understood them when they where babies, I always knew when wahh meant more crackers, hug me or oops, there’s something in there, change me)

What I find strange is that the only post I’ve seen about using the time change to get more morning time is a homeless blog and they did it by accident – forgot the time change. I guess many don’t have clocks so they just automatically stick to their routines until they naturally fall into the new one.

If you haven’t tried it yet, join me. I’ll be up! (or sleeping if it’s after dark :0)

I really like the idea to go vertical if you have a small space and manage work/home in the same space. Check out the shot of the floor to ceiling desk!
