what can't I do

Now that we know the key to taking back our power… recognizing what we CAN do… what is within our circle of control … and owning it outright by asking ourselves simply…

What CAN I Do?…

it's time to look at the flip side and ask ourselves…

What CAN'T I Do?

Does it seem self defeating?

At first glance it does, especially in light of the value in positive thinking to help us get our rear in gear.

But the truth is that recognizing what we can't do is just as important as recognizing what we can do.

BUT IF I'M DOING IT, DOESN'T THAT MEAN THAT I CAN?

Again, at first glance it would look that way to mere mortals, but sometimes when we are treading water we are under the illusion that we are swimming a marathon – and winning!

Most of the time when we hit this state we are so busy that we don't even realize it.

  • If you are doing things without being present, on the fly, all the time, you aren't really doing them.
  • If you are stressed and wishing that you weren't doing them, you aren't really doing them.
  • If they are holding you back from things that you really want to do, you aren't really doing them.
  • If you are never finished, never feel satisfaction, never feel quite right about the tasks you are doing, you aren't really doing them.

Even if it looks like it.

It might sound like nonsense, but if you are suspecting that you may have fallen into this trap, observe yourself as you move through out your day.

WHAT ARE YOU REALLY DOING?

What do you love?

What makes you feel complete?

Like you are getting somewhere?

What will you look back on and be proud of?

WHAT ARE YOU SKIMMING THROUGH?

What makes you feel rushed?

Like you can't wait to get finished?

Like you are on a treadmill that you can never get off?

Like you are wasting your time.

HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL?

Observe how each makes you feel.

The things that you struggle with, the things that are holding you back instead of pushing you forward are the things that you can't do.

Not if you want to be happy, fulfilled and create a life that you love, that makes you feel worthwhile and accomplished.

Of course there are things we all need to do that we don't necessarily want to do but if they are moving us forward and we are seeing progress, then they are things that are on the right track in our big picture.

IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR WASTING YOUR TIME – YOU ARE

That's always a good yardstick to use anytime you are feeling unsure.

And remember, this lifetime is not as endless as the tasks that seem to fill it.

ACTION TIPS

  • Make a point to identify the tasks or areas of your life that you KNOW are not a good fit.
  • Decide what to do about them – an exit plan – delete or delegate. Don't plan to keep doing them.
  • Remember the reason. In recognizing and removing everything possible that doesn't fit in our life, we are freeing time to do the things we DO want to do. That's the value of it. The bottom line.

Can you think of anything better to do with your time?
