Here’s How to Manage Your Time – Day 2

Day 2 – Time Management Success Comes from Within
Time management tools, such as schedules, planners etc are like the icing on the cake.
They will only work if there is a good foundation underneath.
If inside of yourself you think you can’t, or don’t deserve to accomplish the things you are setting out to do, one way or another, you will let other things sabotage your progress and find yourself some day down the road wondering where your dream went.
That is part of the reason setting priorities is so important, it helps to filter out the little nagging 'I can't' voice that we often don't even know is talking to us, and focus on
the 'I CAN'.
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?
But first, even before that step, you need to find out exactly what you are thinking, or even better, what you're not thinking, but feeling inside.
Do you feel like you have the right to choose the structure of your own life?
Or do you feel OBLIGATED to put everyone else first?
This is important.
While, especially as a mom, you need to accommodate others, ask yourself
if you feel that you are as important as they are?
How do your needs rate?
ARE YOU ROLLING YOUR EYEBALLS RIGHT ABOUT NOW?
I can see you :0)
Are you asking yourself – needs?
What needs?
I don't even have time to think about my own needs.
If you're thinking that it's the way it has to be, think again.
MAKE A SHIFT
Making a shift in your own thinking is what you need :0)
Don't forget, as the care giver to the most important little treasures on this earth, you cannot be running on empty.
Not only do you need energy.
You need to be a good role model.
Your kids need to feel the positive energy of someone not only in love with them, but in love with your own life. Or they will feel like they are a burden even if that is not your intention.
And that is a burden that can effect THEM for the rest of their life, and put a rift in your relationship that you may never recover from.
So it IS important to learn how to manage YOUR life so that you can give them a better life.
The good news is that you get a better life as part of the bargain. You can beat that!
With some focus on time management, priorities and boundaries, you can make a shift and in the process have more of yourself to give.
Think about it.
Which kind of mom would you rather have? (although I must say, a personal maid/slave that caters to my ever whim on a minutes notice would be nice :0)
BETTER ISN'T ALWAYS EASY
Not saying it's easy, your tactics will need to be age appropriate when working with your kids.
As you know, they are a large part of our success or failure to manage our time properly (that is age appropriate to the ages of your kids, your age doesn't have too much to do with it – there is no time limit on peace and happiness) and it takes self discipline and a positive attitude.
But with some effort and focus, and most of all, the feeling that you CAN do it, you CAN carve a small piece of yourself back into your life, and watch it snowball from there.
ACTion Tip
- Get a piece of paper (a notebook that you use exclusively for brainstorming and planning is even better) and think of a few reasons why you think that time is getting away on you.
- List the major time stealer's (even if they are legitimate, a time stealer in this case is simply something that takes a large amount of your every day time).
- Write down how you deal with them.
- And write down how you don’t deal with them.
- Go deep. Time management is much more than just a surface fix. You need to find out what your habits, attitudes and beliefs are that are keeping you from your goals.
You need to get clear on the inside before you can get clear on the outside.
Only then will time management truly work for you long term.
Time management builds on your strengths and helps you to identify and deal with your weaknesses.
That is the true magic of it.
JUST REMEMBER
You CAN do it.
Breathe. Focus. Plan. Do.
Sometimes, you may find that there is just too much to do, even with your new attitude.
We'll have more on that tomorrow, as well as the core key to creating a successful schedule.
