Did you know that it’s Procrastination Week?

I’m assuming that doesn’t mean that we can procrastinate all week although that could be nice.

How about if we use it to get a few things out of the procrastination pile?

This would be a fantastic opportunity to take a load off of your shoulders and get rid of the stuff that’s been ‘nagging’ you to finish – or start.

How about it? What’s on your list of things to do that you haven’t been doing?

Better yet, what can you take off and not do at all?

Start there. Then you will be left with the really important things that may cause you a problem down the road if you don’t tackle them soon.

Or could be costing you money – or time – or causing your stress. Ewww.

Let’s get them done this week.

Lifehacker did an interesting article on procrastination in honour of Procrastination Week.

ACTION STEPS

Make your cut off day. Let’s assume it’s Friday but if the weekend is better for you, make it Saturday or Sunday.

Decide what you don’t want to do at all and what is doable that you have been procrastinating on.

Make a plan to do it. When will you do it? What will you need?

Do it!

Come on back and let me know what you were able to clear off of your procrastination pile.

Here’s what I’m going to do.

I’m going to clear my answering machine and make the dentist appointment that I’ve been putting off.

And call the tv company to replace our remote – long time over due!

Call the phone company and get a service or two taken off that I don’t use.

What ever else may be in there that I need to take care of.

If you haven’t noticed, the phone is one of the sore spots that I procrastinate on.

What’s yours?

  1. Hehehe…Yes I chuckled when I heard it was Procrastination Week!

I’ve decided to turn things here around a wee bit, and make a point of AVOIDING the 15-letter word this week. This should show some results, as I’m sure I have a to-do list as long as my arm.
    Will keep you posted Jan……

    1. Hi Fee, I am looking forward to hearing what you are able to knock off of your P List :0)

I went ahead and blocked off this morning to do my calls – erased 18 messages!

Not all had to be returned and some were doubles but I did get my appointments taken care of, a new remote for the tv (free) that’s been broken so we haven’t been able to access all of our features, set up my message center on my new cell phone (from about a month ago) and canceling hydro on our trailer that went up to be too much to pay – going to save some $$ :0))

And details about how to finish up a nutritional consultants course that I only need to do the test on to get my certificate.

Also decided which calls didn’t have to be returned which was uplifting as well.

All in all I feel like a huge weight has been lifted and ask myself ‘why didn’t I do this before?’

  2. Wait, I should be planning and doing stuff? Every day is a procrastination week for me. And I’ll be honest, true procrastinator doesn’t have a list of things to do, making that list would be too much work 🙂

But on the more “serious” note, I both work and procrastinate in the interwebz and it’s easy to get distracted and read yet another cool story, watch one more video, read two more emails, etc. When I need to get things done, e.g. write something, I close everything, or even unplug my computer, and just write.

  3. Hi, Jan! I’m late to reply but I finally did 2 biggies and wrapped them up yesterday. One was putting digital photos onto disks and sending copies to grandparents. Putting family video onto disk and sending to grandparents. It took hours!

The other chore was sending artwork to the Junior Duck Stamp coordinator for our state, and filling out the forms for all of the children’s entries.

    Whew!

And now…drumroll please…the taxes are half done. THAT will be a biggie!

Oh, I did another one! I cleaned the entire floor all the way around my bed. No more stumbling into book piles at night in the dark, no more tripping over quilting projects, no more junk piled on my jewelry box! My bedside table is CLEAN! Yay! And the junk wasn’t repositioned, I dealt with it all for once and for all!

    1. You have been busy!! WOW! I bet you feel terrific. I’m extending my P week to Sunday so that I can get some paperwork organized too that has been nagging me. I need to make a few follow up calls today too, I will not procrastinate on that – usually I would!!

I love to hear about all the stuff you’ve accomplished, it feels so great! Good work!! (I have book piles beside my bed too – guess that’s one more thing I will do too :0)
