How to Get Rid of Fruit flies in the Kitchen

If you are wondering how to get rid of fruit flies there are two things that we have done that helps.

It's been a really bad year for them here. We even had them at Christmas which is unheard of. We used to only get them in the spring or summer.

HOW TO GET RID OF FRUIT FLIES STEP ONE

• The first thing you need to do is get rid of any fruit or vegetable waste.

• If you have compost it needs to be dumped right away.

• If you have ripe fruit around it needs to be stored in the fridge.

• Even fruit or veggies that are not ripe can attract them so you may want to just store any of that right in the fridge.

• If you spill anything or have any type of fruit or vegetable juice anywhere it needs to be wiped right away.

Those tiny darn things are brutal. They seem to have the ability to materialize at whim when a single drop of anything resembling fruit or vegetables appear. They don't call them a fruit fly for nothing!

And they reproduce quickly which I probably don't have to tell you if you have had a problem with them. 

A HANDY TIP 

It could be also that they come in as eggs on the fruit itself, so it might be a good idea to wash your fruit when you get home from the grocery store.

Regardless, this is a great tip anyway because then it is ready to eat and the kids are more likely to grab it instead of junk, and so are we!

So it seems the best defense is a good offense.
