In the hussle and bussle of life, it’s easy to start focusing on what we can’t do.

Or think we can’t do.

After awhile the can’s and the can’ts get rolled into one big ball and it’s hard to remember exactly what we can and can’t do after all.

Sometimes it’s time for a re evaluation and to get things back into perspective.

I recently did this with my house, with amazing results.

I have struggled for years to keep my house clean and in order.

No sooner would I get it the way I liked it when something would come along and throw me off of my routine.

By the time I’d jump back on, I was back to square one.

Well, almost.

GETTING A BOOST

I developed the BOOST Circuit a few years ago and it has continually ‘raised the bar’, even when I fall off, picking up isn’t even half as hard as it used to be.

It works, there isn’t a doubt in my mind because it I use it myself, but I have struggled with staying on the routine of actually doing it consistently.

That is a key to making it an ongoing success, since much of keeping a house clean is maintenance, that means it has to be done consistently or it piles up.

That’s just the way it is.

AN EPIPHANY

One day I asked myself, literally, why am I struggling with this?

I know that it takes about an hour a day tops to keep my house nice.

Why don’t I do it?

And that’s when I realized that there was something in me telling myself that I can’t.

Deep down inside.

I knew it was there all along, but tried to shove it to the side and never quite knew what to do with it.

WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

I can’t be sure, but my guess is that for me it came from a bullying step mother and a childhood spent listening to her yelling because this wasn’t clean enough or that wasn’t good enough for her liking.

She liked everything as neat as a pin and woe be the one to miss a speck of dirt, literally.

I mention this now, not because I am bitter or even angry anymore, I am old enough now that it was long ago and I have even come to understand her own pain which drove her.

I do mention it because I am not serving anyone by leaving out this key piece of information.

Both because some of you may have had the same experience and be sitting in the same emotional boat, and because some of you may be in the position of doling out the childhood experience for your own children, not realizing your full power or the influence that you are having on the soul of a beautiful child.

WHY NOT?

So, after I realized that deep down I had a ‘knowing’ that I just could not clean ‘properly’ and beyond, it occurred to me that there is absolutely no reason why not.

It occurred to me that there are things I can’t do, but keeping the house clean is not one of them.

As Stephen Covey puts it, keeping a clean house is completely within my circle of influence.

I CAN.

All it takes is a morning routine when I do my BOOST Circuit.

Interestingly enough, this has completely motivated me to spend more time conquering other things around the house, and motivated others in the house to do the same.

It’s all good.

I have also been reading Anthony Robbins – Awaken the Giant Within in the mornings before I do my BOOST.

He says that the single most important thing is to make a decision… to decide.

I agree.

I decided one morning not long ago that keeping my house clean was one of my main priorities and that I could… and would do it. That there really wasn’t a single good reason keeping me from it.

And I haven’t looked back since.

A DECISION IS WORTH NOTHING WITHOUT ACTION

He also says that a decision is worth nothing without action.

To take at least one action immediately after your decision.

That you need to see success in your goal at least once per day.

The BOOST circuit gives me that, and more.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Have you given up on keeping your house presentable?

Step back for a minute.

Think about your life, what might be muddling your thinking.

Take this one thing out of the mix.

Can you spend some time, every day cleaning up your house?

If not, why not?

What could you do about it?

Get help? Change your schedule? Remove a few things from your life?

If you have one hour a day, or even less after you’ve been doing it for awhile, in one chunk or through out the day in 5 or 10 minute chunks, you CAN keep your house nice and pleasant to be in.

You CAN walk into a room and it will feel like a breath of fresh air.

DECIDE TO DECIDE

How tired are you of living in mess and clutter, being embarrassed to have people over?

Rushing because you can’t find things, stressed and miserable because nothing flows smoothly in a messy house?

Setting a bad example for your kids.

Do you want to clean it up or don’t you?

If you do, take the next step.

Get your BOOST Circuit.

It will tell you all you need to know.

You just need to put aside 40 – 60 minutes per day in total, and you will see an remarkable improvement.

I guarantee it or I will give you your money back, no questions asked.

There is no risk, but there is a world of difference, and freedom waiting for you.

Do the BOOST Circuit along with me, starting today.

Start looking forward to tomorrow.

  1. Well it has been quite busy over the last few weeks here. I haven’t been checking in until now, but I HAVE been continuing with my projects at home.
One of the main “Hot-Spots” on my Big Rocks list, was to get rid of a lot of papers related to work. Why was I keeping this at home? Well as a teacher, I have to plan lessons in advance, and this annoying heap/mountain was of items that I had photocopied, and kept for “future use” ;-P …. I really could not give myself a reason for keeping them all. Many of them I took back to work, and filed in my new office. I have a desk and space to put things there which will no doubt reflect on my home. That is good!
Others, I popped into the paper recycling bin, and some I stored here near the computer as scrap paper.
The other big headache that I’ve been working on is/was my Plastics Cupboard. Can anyone else relate?
I asked my practical Place-for-Everything daughter to sort it all out for me. She grouped the items according to size, and then again according to frequency of use. And the lids? Well the clever cookie took care of all that for me. She found an oversized plastic bag, and stacked them in up on their edges.
Result- I can find plastics I need without trashing the plastics cupboard!
I have set some routines in place. We have a basic morning/ afternoon and evening routine. I can tear myself away from my books/computer/telephone for an extra half an hour and can use my boost programme to quickly give the carpets and rugs a whizz round with the vacuum. When I leave in the morning, I turn on the washing machine, and when I return, I get the laundry out on the line, and with the climate here, it’s dry by early evening. With six of us at home, we need to do about 3 loads daily, which includes bedding , towels and all kinds of sports gear, as well as school uniforms!
I am feeling more positive, Spring is definitely in the air, and I am slowly seeing light at the end of the tunnel. The BOOST Circuit and the Take 5 Challenges help me every day!
    Thanks Jan.
