Home Organization Tips – Self Discpline is the Queen of Everything
And you thought it was your 2 14 year old daughter.
Over the years of having varying degrees of success in keeping my home organized, a place I thrive in, I have found that it comes down to one thing, what I call the S word.
Personally, I don’t excel in that area.
I am a strong starter dreamer, I could spend days planning and scheming about how good things were going to be, I could make charts and worksheets and post them all over the house, but after a week or two, I’d falter.
I’d suddenly look up and shebang, the house was a disaster again – and that was always just about the time the doorbell would ring. It seems to be an unwritten law.
But when I have had success, it really hasn’t been so much in the planning.
Yes, you do need to know what to do. But in reality, you already have a good idea. If you are struggling, it will be those things that you already know you should be doing, the things that are staring you in the face. Undone.
It took me very little time to create my BOOST CIRCUIT, my saving grace. The one piece of paper that comes through for me EVERY TIME.
But the trick is in DOING IT. TAKING ACTION. EVERY DAY.
Your daily routine will ultimately become the sum of your lifetime. (sounds deep, but hey… it’s New Year’s Day)
And it really isn’t even that hard. It’s the exact same principle for any success I have had in any area of my life.
I used it to loose 10 stubborn pounds, I use it when my business is running tip top.
1. Create a daily routine. Small 5 – 10 minute tasks that will form your BOOST Circuit – it should take no more than 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to do. These tasks could be called the CORE tasks, things that if done everyday, even a for just a few minutes, will see huge results. The 20 part of the 80/20 rule.
2. Create a time pocket to do it in. If you are a mom with small children it will be a challenge to make this time pocket a solid time everyday so make it what I like to call a floating time slot. Make it when you have the most chance of being uninterrupted… when the kids go for a nap, when they watch their favourite show, before they get up, when you have someone else in the house to look after them etc. It is easier this way to create a habit. Once you have done this, you will be almost auto pilot. At that point, it’s a piece of cake.
3. Create an unbreakable agreement with yourself that you WILL spend your allotted time slot doing your routine, or what I prefer to call your BOOST CIRCUIT. And this is the hardest part. That S word again. But you CAN do it. You just need to decide and make it a priority.
If you take it seriously, this information can change your life. I guarantee it. If it means doing it before you go to bed because you didn’t get it finished, then so be it. But I can tell you, after that happens a few times, you’ll do it earlier .
That is really all there is to it.
You can repeat this procedure in any area of your life. The only thing is to be sure not to over do the number of BOOST Circuits you are working with or you will not be able to keep up with yourself and that will lead to burn out, disappointment, boredom and failure.
Choose wisely. Start slowly. Create one and see how well it works for you, then go on to the next.
You might enjoy this list of things to add to your daily routine. They won’t take much time, for the most part they are basic mindsets and principles that will guarantee you to create a life in keeping with your inner self. Some of these are very easily forgotten until you wake up one morning and see that you wish you had remembered. Highly recommended – a quick read with far reaching benefit.
