Productivity Rule #1 – Self Discipline
![]() |
We all know what it's like to live with unruly kids who have lack of self discipline.
Too much monkeying around and things can get hairy!
- I want. I want. I want.
- Chores don't get done.
- Homework slides.
- Green stuff starts growing in the closet.
Unless we tell them differently.
Or even better – unless they tell themselves.
And what about us?
I have a confession to make.
Sometimes I feel like an unruly kid with lack of self discipline.
I want. I want. I want.
Chores don't get done.
Work piles up.
Green stuff starts growing in the closet.
OK, I will not admit to that one.
There is officially NO green stuff growing in my closet – at least not last time I checked.
BUT
I have no one to tell me differently, no one to MAKE me work hard – or easy.
Except myself.
And if I don't listen, things get out of hand – fast.
How about you?
Sometimes as we're running here and there, it really feels like it's all someone else's fault.
We forget that self management is a skill, and it all boils down to us.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN STRESSED?
… and muttering away about this or that, forgetting that…
somewhere along the line, a decision you made got you there?
That's all fine and dandy if it was a conscious decision, but it can get ugly if it's a consequence of choosing not to make a decision or not to take action on a decision you have made.
It all comes down to self discipline – and integrity to Your Self.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST REASONS…
that I have found I struggle with self discipline and self integrity is loss of focus and being 'out there'.
To become self disciplined requires a strong connection with self.
Sounds logical.
Know what you can do?
Get to know yourself again.
Slow down. Listen.
To you.
AND IF YOU'RE TOO TIRED
Exhaustion is another thing that can play a role – sometimes we are just too tired and it's just too tempting to say… later.
Neither of these necessarily are caused by lack of willpower or avoiding hard work.
Actually, it can be the complete opposite.
Both of these can be caused by taking on too much.
Surprise!
MY BEST THING
Meantime, the best thing that I've found to help me to stay self disciplined has been my BOOST Housework Circuit – actually, it's the only thing.
The reason is that it's fast, and once I set it up, there is no thinking involved, just doing.
You might find it helpful too if you need some help in helping yourself.
"With self-discipline most anything is possible."
Theodore Roosevelt
