Today I was listening to the radio and heard an ad for Earth Day.
On the surface it sounded great. Celebrate Earth Day!
Park your car today.
Ride your bike.
Bring your lunch to work, using washable containers.
Use filtered water instead of buying bottled water.
But something seemed off.
Aha!
All great ideas. I’m all for awareness and a movement to be earth friendly.
It all starts today. And tomorrow. And then the next day, right?
And that’s the point.
EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY
Let’s remember, every day is Earth Day.
As long as we live on Earth, the very ground beneath our feet and the air around us needs to be treated with respect and stewardship or it simply won’t be here.
It’s common sense.
NUMBER ONE TIP?
- Slow down.
- Reconnect.
- Make the time today to get out and take a walk in nature.
- Plant something – really!
- Water it. Nurture it. Watch it grow.
That is the power of the earth. Remember that and the rest becomes easy.
In today’s hurry up world, the main enemy seems to have become our disconnection from almost everything that is important.
Family… Our Planet… Ourselves.
You can remedy it by taking time – just reach out and take it. Stop what you are doing. Breathe. Look around. Wake up.
It’s up to you.
Here are some great things you can do if you are looking for earth friendly things to do and some interesting issues to be aware of.
As you know, forewarned is forearmed – or something like that.

Jan, What a terrific Earth Day post. I love the focus of getting your children involved. I’ve been amazed since I moved from Seattle a few months ago that there’s no recycling of trash in the town I’m living in here in Maryland. Seattle provides a recycling container for a mix of paper, plastic, glass, aluminum foil, and cans. That gets separated and sold. Another container is for yard wastes, food wastes, and shredded paper. That goes to a composting facility. The rest–and there is hardly anything left–goes to the landfill. A good solution environmentally and economically, since it prolongs the life of the landfill. It’s really hard for me to just throw away all that stuff here.
