Mom, Do You Want to See My System?

queenofkaoshomeyellow149.jpgI couldn’t believe what I was hearing today when my 9 year old daughter called down from the bathroom, where she was mopping the floor (miracle number one accomplished only because I remembered to tell her that she needed to do her 15 minute contribution to the household before she went to Nana’s. Had I forgotten, it wouldn’t have happened - remember - if it’s to be, it’s up to you!)

Anyway, of course I wanted to see her system, I was amazed that she even had a system although she is the one that has been making lists since I can remember and gets pre-organized so far in advance that it drives me nuts (I don’t really want to worry about her birthday party details for days when it isn’t for another 10 months).

I still don’t know if she was born that way or if any of what I have been trying to accomplish has rubbed off on her, I certainly never told her she needed a system for washing the bathroom floor (a chore she requested, rule #2 - be flexible - if it makes them happy and is reasonable, go for it. Personally I was thrilled, it really needed to be washed!)

Must Read Mother’s Day Story - you will never look at chap stick the same again

I received this in my email from my MIL this morning.

Subject: A touching Mothers’ Day Tribute *

We had this 10 year old cat named Jack who just recently died. Jack was a great cat and the kids would carry him around and sit on him and nothing ever bothered him. He used to hang out and nap all day long on this mat in our bathroom.

Child Abuse - something we’d rather not talk about

I was having a pleasant day yesterday when I decided to flip on a movie while I did some sorting in our living room.

As it turned out I didn’t do much sorting because the movie was in french with english sub titles. It looked good so I got hooked and watched it (the plan was to listen while I worked)

As the movie progressed, it went from an average, good movie to one of horror. It was upsetting to me to watch, I had to turn away a few times.

But it got worse, because at the end I found out that it was a true story, about a little girl who died from severe child abuse at the hands of her step-mother and her own father.
