The Big Cookie Lesson

My husband came home on Friday and we where all sitting around watching a movie.

He got the munchies and said that there would be something “mysterious” ready in 15 minutes.

15 minutes later he comes down with home made oatmeal/chocolate cookies for us all - it was one big cookie cut into 4.

I’m eating my cookie marvelling at his obvious talent to whip up a batch of REALLY GOOD oatmeal/chocolate chip cookies in about 10 minutes minus cooking time. And thinking, if he can do it, why can’t I do that?

It was so good, and I was so amazed, I had to ask.

What recipe did you use? I was just waiting for him to say that he made it up in his head, he’s like that. (the results vary!)

He just shrugged and said, I just cooked the big cookie dough that was in the freezer.

Duhh! If he only knew what I was thinking, he never would have told me.

I couldn’t believe it. I should have been marvelling at me!

I made the cookie dough a few weeks ago and put the left over in the freezer. And forgot all about it (lucky for him, or it would have been gone!)

I must say, it was kind of fun being in total awe for 5 minutes of his amazing culinary skills. My eyes probably where bigger than my stomach at that point, and it was hard to chew with my jaw dropping to the floor.

And it was even more fun when I found out that I put it in there (marked with the oven temp and time on the bag too!)

The lesson?

Keep track of what you put in the freezer! And don’t always assume that you don’t have anything made.

And if your husband shows up after a quick trip to the kitchen with a plate of homemade cookies, check the freezer!

ACTION TIP

Keep a fridge and freezer log on your fridge or in your binder.

Be sure to mark any dough or freezer cooking with temperature, time needed to cook and date it was put in the freezer. It will save a lot of time, and maybe somebody else will cook it!

  1. What a good idea! It WOULD be a great idea to have someone else able to make something easily once in a while! :D
