Keeping a clean house can seem to be an impossible task some days. Too many of these days can start to wear not only on our house, but on our state of mind too. And that of our family.
When I finally found myself getting “on top” of the piles and constant struggle to keep the mess away, I realized that the reason I was able to do it was one thing - CONSISTANT ACTION.
ACTION IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS
I’ll say it again!
Sometimes you may look around you and wonder how you got here?
Piles. Mess. Disorganization. Stress. Clutter!
No time, you say.
That’s what I said too.
HOW DID WE GET HERE?
I look back to try to pinpoint when exactly clutter and disorganization got the best of me.
It would seem to me that it really started after having my family, although I was prone to being disorganized before that. I just didn’t have so much stuff to deal with so it wasn’t a huge problem.
But more stuff and more responsibilities = overwhelm.
At some point, I tuned out completely and focused on other things, areas where I thought I had a half a chance of success.
At some point I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore.
And it kept piling up.
A WAY OUT
After too many years spent this way I realized that I was not avoiding the issue. It was not taking care of itself.
Sporadic attempts at getting rid of the mess where not working.
What did work was a regular schedule, a little bit at a time.
The main thing was to do it.
Not talk about it, complain about it, or cope with it.
Just to do it.
It takes a little time to get a foot hold, but at some point, every little thing you do really starts to show.
KEEPING A CLEAN HOUSE
It takes patience. It takes willpower.
As time goes by, the results will feed your energy to do more.
And it will become a habit.
It seems a long way out sometimes, but the truth is, those mountains are not as big as they seem if you just get to it.
It will probably mean a new focus, spending time usually spent on other things. But it doesn’t have to be a lot of time.
And the reward is freedom. Do you want that?
15 minutes per day will see results.
Using time you may otherwise spend watching TV or browsing the computer will give you even more.
If you find yourself with a time pocket, make the choice to go one more step in the right direction.
And don’t forget.
Your kids are watching you.
If nothing else inspires you, let that be your reminder.
Little eyes (and big) are on you.
What do they see?
