Mother’s Day Ideas for Older Kids

Mother’s Day Ideas for Older Kids

Whether it’s a box of candy, a bouquet of flowers, or a handmade craft, moms everywhere appreciate and enjoy whatever their kids give them for Mother’s Day. Here are some ideas older children can do for and give to Mom to make the day special.

If your child has some money available to purchase Mom a gift, they can:

·         Take mom out for lunch

·         Buy her favorite CD

·         Plan ahead and get some pictures taken of you (and siblings if appropriate) to surprise her with on Mother’s Day (this is especially effective if you haven’t had a picture with your siblings in a long time!)

·         Give her a box of her favorite chocolates

·         Place one red rose in a vase and present it to her

·         Book a family portrait and pay for the pictures

·         Take her to a movie or a play

·         Buy her a gift certificate to her favorite store or for her favourite product

·         Buy her favorite bath oil and some candles

Just because it didn’t cost much or anything, doesn’t mean it’s not as special! Try these:

·         Give her breakfast in bed

·         Prepare the table for dinner

·         Do the laundry

·         Take her to the park for a picnic lunch

·         Clean the house

·         Make supper and have the whole family sit down together for the meal time

·         Bake her a cake or favorite cookies

·         Make a special card

·         Sit with mom and talk

·         Offer to do a specific chore for a week

·         Have a family game day – play cards, board games, charades, etc.

·         Make a huge Happy Mother’s Day Sign

·         Decorate a picture frame and give her a picture of you or you together

·         Make a jewelry box for her using dried flowers

·         Offer to be HER chauffeur for the day and drive her around as she does her errands

·         Look at old photo albums or watch home videos together

·         Make a bag of potpourri using dried flowers from the garden

·         Put all her favourite recipes together – use either a photo album and recipe cards or make a binder to create her own unique cookbook. (my daughter did this at Christmas for her nana who can’t eat gluten at, it was a huge hit)

Moms are special in so many ways.

Unselfish, kind, loving, caring; and these are qualities we sometimes take for granted. Mom probably doesn’t expect anything for Mother’s Day, which is why anything an older kid does for mom would be appreciated beyond belief.  All mom wants is to know they are loved and respected.

(My request for any occasion has become a big hug, they are few and far between these days and still just as great! I also ask for a plant when they ask me :0)

While the kids may not have the money to buy some of the items listed above, their creativity will see them through. Whatever your kids decide to do to celebrate your special day, know they have thought about it and whether the gift is large or small, it comes from the heart.

ACTION TIP

Print out the above and post it in various places through out the house.  It will make it easier for them too.
