As Mother’s Day approaches, children all want to show their moms how special they are by giving them gifts and crafts.
There are lots of Mother’s Day ideas for younger kids to become involved in, and they don’t have to cost a lot to be of worth. The younger the child, the more actively involved another adult will need to be to help make the day exceptional for Mom & kids.
Spending quality time with your child is important. This builds memories and makes them know how important they are to you. (as a mom of older kids, I realize more and more how important and fleeting an opportunity it is every day)
One good idea is to read together. Make a trip to the local library together to find books about moms. One great mommy book is Robert Munsch’s “Love You Foreverâ€. (Don’t forget to grab yourself some Kleenex!) note: I will love Robert Munsch books for ever, Robert Munsch Rules! :0)
·        Framing your child’s handprints with a witty poem can preserve the days of little fingers on the walls for days to come.
·        Surprise Mom by making breakfast with Dad and bringing it to her in bed.
·        Colour Mother’s Day signs and hang them around the home.
·        Decorate pasta shapes with crayons, markers or paint (or leave plain) and string them together to make a special necklace for mom to wear.
·        Write a letter to Mom on colorful paper.
·        Make a Mother’s Day card.
·        Print out a Mother’s Day template for kids to color and present to mom.
·        Pour salt into a bowl and stir with a piece of chalk to colour it. Make layers in a glass jar of coloured salt to make a unique work of art.
·        The kids may offer to do certain chores for a week.
·        Use construction paper to make a hanging sign spelling out the word love.
·        Print out an award template and give it to mom so she knows how special she is.
·        Take a picture of your children and their mom and have the kids decorate a frame to put it in.
·        Let your child pick out a single flower to give to mom – either from your garden or the local flower shop.
·        Make your own flower by folding a piece of tissue paper accordion-style and attaching a green pipe cleaner to the middle of the strip for the stem when folded. Then open the tissue paper to make the petals.
·        Pamper Mom – let her sleep in, give her lots of hugs & kisses, pour bubbles in her bath, and make her feel like a princess!
·        Squirt a LITTLE bit of her favourite scent on a cotton ball, wrap in some gauze and tie with a pretty ribbon.
·        Create a poster to hang up by using a large piece of paper, favourite craft items and the wonder of imagination.
Kids are creative, and they may come up with other Mother’s Day ideas or activities as well. Dad, ask your kids what they would like to do, and offer your assistance. Make this day special for mom. She sure deserves it!
I have to say it one more time, take advantage of the time that you have now with those sweet little guys and gals, it really doesn’t last forever, although some days it seems like it will!
