I have talked a lot about the importance of weeding the clutter and junk, it really is the first step. Moving things from one place to another in your home is just a lesson in futility and frustration, and it never looks better anyway!
Physically removing things that are in your way will give you a sense of mental as well as physical relief. As it turns out, less really is more.
That’s no secret.
The next step is what we’ve all been waiting for - beautification!
This is the time of year ripe for flowers and beautiful, colourful things.
If you are not prepared yet, pick one place to be your center. One small space that you can maintain and beautify. Even if that is the only spot in the house that brings you peace at the moment, it will feed your energy and calm your spirit, and give you the motivation to expand, how ever slowly (or quickly) it may be.
ACTION TIP
Pick a spot today, it could be a table top, a small sitting area, a play area for the kids. Get rid of anything in it that you don’t like or don’t use. Grab some paint or some new material, maybe a few cushions, something cute and whimsical, something colourful, a plant or flowers, a new organizing bin for toys - what ever suits the space.
It doesn’t have to be large or expensive, just something that makes you feel good. (even a few wildflower seeds thrown to the winds can give some amazing results in an outdoor area)
Make that your focus for improvement this week. Let me know how you did, I’d love to hear from you.
(My focus this week is really fun! We just finished closing in a deck area that we’ve been working on for years so we are putting some furniture in it. What’s my number one concern? Character and wide open spaces.
No clutter by anything - furniture or otherwise. So we are planning carefully and having some fun with it. I bought a Peace Lily and a small cactus that will go in it too. - I’ll take a picture and put it up, it would be fun to see a before and after.)
the reward.
