DAY 1 - Did I Do That?

This is something that happens on a typical day in “Queen of KAOS” land if I don’t watch what I am doing. Have you ever done this?
I had a series of dentist appointments for me and my kids - actually the story of KAOS begins earlier than today, I had to make 4 appointments to get everyone in before my husband’s insurance ran out. Why? Because I didn’t make the appointments before so I was winging it last minute. But I digress.
I ran out the door with my 13 year old daughter in tow, a day after she specificially told me that I told her that her appointment was on Tuesday? (insert melodramatic music here)
I insisted that I told her it was her first day back to school after the holiday (which I later realized that I thought it was Tuesday (insert more music)
So guess who drives her other daughter and friend to school and makes the 45 minute trek to the dentist during a snow storm with questionable tires to a dentist appointment that is, you guessed it, tomorrow!
Me :0)
To top it off I had to return an item to the store, in my hurry the reciept blew out of the box and landed on my stairs at home, so I couldn’t even do that (but I did manage to fit in an egg McSausage which isn’t really included in my diet plans)
When I arrived home, I found the receipt on the stairs, with a mud print on it from the dog that had come in muddy as I was in too much of a hurry to notice.
It figures. Good news is that I eventually did return it, to get another one that doesn’t work (unless I lost 5lbs in one week, that is a totally different story)
The moral of the story?
Put your calender where you can see it - I had switched to a smaller calendar and moved it from the usual place, I couldn’t easily see it which contributed to the problem.
Check your calendar before you leave (instead of after) - that should go without saying…
If you kids tell you something, listen to them, at least check out their story, chances are, especially if it concerns them, they might know better what is going on than you do (at least that’s what happens at our house)
Plan ahead so this kind of thing doesn’t happen in the first place - bet you’ve heard that before.
Last but not least, if you have Microsoft Outlook, use the calendar feature to remind you of any appointments that you may have.
OR, set yourself up a tickle file system and put a reminder in it for the day before with any details. Slip that reminder into the day of the appointment after you have gotten anything ready that needs to be done.
I finally set one up for myself this year, I absolutely love the new control over my schedule it gives me because I no longer have to worry about forgetting anything (I know, tell it to the judge)
Just be sure to look at it at least once every morning or the evening before when you are setting up your daily schedule or to do list.
