THE SECRET INGREDIENT TO FOCUS – START HERE
If you've been stuck on focus for very long, you've probably seen all kinds of things written about how to get focus – time management tips and tricks you can use, how to stage your environment for better focus, what to do with the kids and family and so on and so on.
All of these aspects are important but there is one thing that you need before you can be effective with any of these.
It's so simple and obvious that it almost goes without saying.
Almost.
Not quite though.
Take your business seriously… seriously…
If you have your own business, it should be safe to say that you know what you are doing in the trade of your choice.
If that isn't the case, get educated and get some experience. This will not only qualify you for the job but it will also give you a huge confidence boost.
And then it is time to start focusing on what you know, rather than on what you don't know.
It's time to get to work. Time to build YOUR foundation.
Time to share your knowledge with those who need it. Your future clients and customers.
Once you do that, many of the things that may be distracting you now will start to fall off naturally.
Less time will be spent on things that show no real results or things that are too overwhelming and never get implemented.
The danger of focusing on the 'wrong' things – the internet/social marketing craze is the big thing that comes to my mind right now is just that… a danger of shifting your focus.
Initial vision somehow gets lost and next thing we know we are spending our time… our focus… on other things.
Far too many other things.
Somehow work time becomes play time because we have lost faith in what our business is about. Somehow we become afraid to act like we know what we're doing just because we don't know EVERYTHING about things that have nothing to do with what we do.
We forget our primary objective. What we are good at.
This issue is about having enough faith in your business, what it is about and what it has to offer to take your work time seriously, buckle down and get some work done.
Stick to your business first and the rest will follow.

Hi Jan! I love what your doing and your information is so great and inspiring!
I’m just getting started in the information side of IM. I was hooked up with MaxPro System, but it just isn’t worth the monthly fee of $ 197.00, plus $ 30.00 for the Web Hosting site they use!
Although I have already learned a lot about the business, I AM feeling overwhelmed with all the information out there!
I feel that my technical skills are severely lacking. For example: how to upload pics and let’s say testimonials from other people! Eventually creating my own Website, and adding graphics etc.
I am starting to do research on all that, but if you have any useful advice ( which I’m sure you do :), could you please pass it along?

Your emphasis on focus is so true! There is so much in the way of classes and forums and mentoring offered out there–all costing money. It’s a good thing my budget keeps me in check. I’m so tempted when I read about them. I NEED them–HA. What I need is to focus, like you say, on the basics.
The two areas I’m focusing on are copywriting for the web and doing my own niche sites and affiliate marketing. It’s doable, as long as I *focus* and spend the time.
And confidence–I need to believe I can do it. Common sense tells me that lots of others are making money and making a career for themselves. It stands to reason I can too. But this little voice keeps saying I need more information, more training. More money. Not true. Gotta work on the confidence.
I just bought(!) your Home Business Boost and it makes so much sense. I already tackle the housework and decluttering 15 minutes at a time so your system really appeals to me. And I like the structure it provides, and the fact that it’s very simple. Simple is good!
