    Exercise, Freakin' Out & 40

    Exercise for the Elderly

I'm celebrating my 45th birthday next week – really!

While I'm not going to kid myself and say that there is nothing I miss about being young… there are lots of things that I am really liking about the age that I am…

    - my kids are getting old enough that I can leave the house un-escorted for a substantial space of time. Yes, there is life out there. Who would have thought?

    - I am so much more secure with myself. I'm definitely moving into the purple hat attitude era, minus the purple hat – or hair. I find myself being inspired by my dad, who has reached the age of entitlement… he now seems hilarious rather than rude.

I chuckle almost every time I think of him… see what you can get away with as time goes on? I'm not even going to say what his philosophy on life is, lets just say, it's inspiring on 'those days'.

    - I just don't get so all fired up anymore. Let's just say that when I was young, I was passionate. While that is a great thing, it's exhausting and I spent a lot of time slamming myself metaphorically against the same wall, over and over again. It's where I got my grey hair in the first place. I've learned the meaning of the word 'chill'… the true value of forgiveness, letting things slide and accepting things as they are. And hey! I'm not perfect either. It took me a long time to figure that one out :0))

    -  On that note, I've learned that there is no such thing as 'perfect people'. And no 'bad people'. No black and white. Everyone has a little good and bad in them. A little perfect, and a little not so perfect. At the end of the day, we're all doing the best with what we have.

You might be wondering at what age can you use your number as an excuse to give it all up, sit in a pile, and wait to die :0)

    There is no age!

It seems extreme, but about 3 years ago, I was pretty much there.

I was seeing the age on my face, on my body.

I was really feeling as though I was decaying, no longer growing.

    What a let down!

Then I started a fitness challenge at our local gym.

    Boy was I surprised!

I really thought that I was on a one way trip – going the wrong way!

    Everything turned around.

Then the gym closed and I found myself sliding again.

Not back to the same place I had been, but I was heading in the wrong direction – again.

Then I found Holly at Holly at FYM and it has been a good journey.

I have slid now and then, but she is always there when I want to jump back on.

I am so much better off than I was those 3 long years ago. And getting better all the time.

    I'm not finished yet!

But what I really wanted to show you today, is this picture.

It's of a 74 year old body builder.

She looks better than a lot of 20 year olds who are not looking after themselves, I can tell you!

Read the article too, it's very motivating if you think your done.

It is definitely the time of year to be getting back on board with a Fit Yummy Mummy 12 Week Challenge – I am counting down the days to being 10lbs lighter and 12 weeks stronger!

Holly gives us assignments throughout the challenge, today it is to examine perfection and the effect that it has on our results – and how it can more likely than not cause more trouble than it saves. I am looking at that today.

How about you. Has perfection ever brought you down in your efforts to lose weight or get healthier?
