During a seminar at our gym, the nutritionist told us that a protein with a small carb was essential within 1/2 hour of exercising to replenish/repair muscle tissue after exercising, making your next work out and fat burned between more effective.
I usually was hungry anyway as I eat often but not before exercising, so I would bring a small yogurt container and an all bran bar, and my water of course.
The bran bar tasted pretty good, you can get them at the grocery store, fairly reasonable on calories and provides fibre as well.
You can make something your self that would contain less sugar. Recipes anyone?
